I've only been there once, but prior to my 1st time visit, I heard good things about this place so I decided to give it a chance. Although I can't give you a rating on their pizza, or the salads, I can say that their subs are pretty darn good. They had a wide variety from Chicken, Steak, Meat lovers, Pepperoni, Gyros, and some more which is a plus. The service was fast and friendly which is another plus. It's a subtle little place on Central Ave; I'd go there again next time I'm in the area.

Decided to give these guys a shot. Called and ordered a large pie and cheese steak for pickup. Was told about 25mins. Got there and waited at the counter. The guy I passed coming out the front door as i entered eventually came back from outside and asked what I needed. I asked for my pickup order and he said give him a minute they were melting the cheese on the cheesesteak. So I pulled out a chair by a table near the counter and waited. Sat there almost 20 mins waiting while others showed for pickup orders and left. Finally the guy who helped me said something to the two old guys in the kitchen about my order. Then under his breath said "why hasn't he got his order yet"? Finally the delivery driver brought my order out to me. As I drove home I was thinking this had better be good. Unfortunately it wasn't that great. The pizzas crust was bland along with the sauce. Neither had anything appealing to them and the crust was to thick for my liking. Toppings were adequate but nothing special. The meatball in particular was very lacking and had no decernable flavor. Then came the cheesesteak. The portion of steak was good but again flavor was lacking. The only real flavor was from the cherry pepper relish which I opted for. Overall I wasn't impressed with the food or service and won't return. Was a waste of time. I will stick with TOBY'S LITTLE ITALY which has an awesome pie and cheesesteak. These guys aren't even on the same level.

I agree with the other post, if you don't know the drill then you could get lost. BUT go to the counter and order one of the most tasty pies of your life. The Greek salad is awesome! One of the best I've ever had...plentiful feta, amazing dressing and super yummy potato salad. Wish it was closer to where we lived but we drive 20 mins to get there and aren't dissatisfied.

Delivery was fast and the guy was very nice. The chicken mushroom spinach pizza was so delicious. We also got a cannoli that was great. Will definitely be ordering again

Looking over the local delivery places, we came across Paulos. The menu seemed like it had a lot of different options so we decided to try it out. We ordered a large pepperoni pizza and a capicola sub. Both were just ok. Prices seemed fine for the most part. Delivery was relatively fast and the delivery guy was nice. I was hoping for a bit more when it came to the pizza as I need to find my must have area pizza delivery.

Came here the other night and ordered their popular steak bomb sub. I have to say I was left a little disappointed. First of all the subs are only 10 inch which is no big deal as long as the ingredients are quality, but I was not bowled over this trip. The steak was okay, nothing special, seasoned well and they add pepperoni to the sandwich which is different, but I dug it. The problem for me was the briny peppers and pepperchinis added to the mix. The vinegar of the peppers overpowered the sub and drowned out the flavor of the meat. Next time I may try it without. They have a nice menu of salads, pizza, etc and will be back to try more and may update my review when I do, but this trip I was not left that impressed.

I've been eating at Paulo's since 1985. I live in San Diego now, but I include a stop at Paulo's on every Florida trip I make. The food is that good. Their pizzas and salads are good. Their hot sandwiches are amazing!!!!!! The Steak Bomb is not so much a sammich as it is a religious experience: great steak, great bread, great peppers, great cheese...wait, there's more: PEPPERONI too! Your mouth will think it's died and gone to heaven! I would kill a man, in front of his momma, for a Paulo's Steak Bomb!!!! (Kidding. I think)

One of my favorite places for pizza pies and calzones. I have loved these pizzas for almost 30 years. Since it was across the street and up a block or two. Paulo's has remained fantastic all thru the years. Excellent

Always great. We have been eating with these guys for years, since their previous whole in the wall shop up the street. Great pie, fresh ingredients, and always consistent. Most importantly, their shop is clean!!!! Not like the others in the vicinity who have a screen door, front and back, limited AC, and stuff all over the place. Paulo's is a great pick

The previous reviewer said this was a bad place to go for pizza and sit-down service, so upon hearing that we headed in for pizza and sit-down service. Ordered their current sweet-spot deal, a 2-topping large for $10.99 (prices subject to change I am sure, but it lured me in...a 2-topping, hopefully superior pie at the price point of Papa John's latest deal-du-jour...SOLD!). The pizza here is very much in the vein of Dal'Italia or Paisano's (both on 4th St): a Clark-Griswold-takes-Rusty-and-Audrey-out-for-pizza kind of vibe. Suburban, with kind of dated recipes (yes, I realize that sounds ridiculous, like how could a classic Italian recipe be dated? But I mean to say these are old-school 70's and 80's American adaptions that - I am willing to bet - have not evolved in those 25+ years). It arrives: We ordered green peppers and pepperoni, and they generously gave us red peppers too. What's more, the peppers appeared to be herb-marinated with basil or something, a nice touch that added to presentation, if not subtleties of flavor. First bites: let me start by saying that this is perfectly acceptable, family-style pizza. Good for kids, good for adults, etc. Restaurant is clean and pleasant. Wholesome, fresh, etc. Price is right. OK, now I rip into it... The crust (my fetish) has this sort of water cracker plainness to it. No yeast notes; instead, a prominent fragrance and taste is white flour. Before you think I am so plebian as to be asking for a few shakes of Hungry Howie's butter-buds-style crust flavoring compound, I am not. Just asking for maybe some developed yeast aromas or some kind of complimentary flavor arising from at least a little dough-love would be nice. This is by no means horrible, but not my first choice. Does not ruin the pizza, but does it no great favors either. Functions as a canvas. Again - good pizza. Good people. I can see how previous reviewer would think the hostess lady was gruff - I could perceive it was probably a component of her personality and him saying that doesn't surprise me. But she was sweet as pie to us. Maybe she reads Yelp. Four stars on here is "Yay! I'm a fan" and three is "A-OK." I agree with previous reviewer, this is an "A-OK" place that deserves an extra half star for integrity, good people and product freshness. We wouldn't drive too far to come back, but if in the area would certainly return (and stick with the vaunted subs). It's a solid Proximity Pick.

Subs- Amazing! (esp. the grilled chicken) Pizza- As good as you can find in St Pete. I've been eating here most of my life. I love this place. That said, I know what to get, and what to expect. Everyone I've brought here loves the place. The hot subs: Awesome. Grilled steak, chicken or hot Italian, put on a fresh roll, topped with cheese and thrown in the oven for a few mintues to melt the cheese. Then some fresh lettuce and tomatoes, and you're in heaven. The Pizza: personally I love it. The sauce is NOT sweet (gross). The toppings are plentiful. I prefer a thin crust, so order my pizza XL, as I suspect they use the same amount of dough for both L and XL. Oh, and a XL is 18 inches, you can feed the whole family with one of these things... The service: Can be lacking. Half the staff is awesome, the other half (including the owner) leaves something to be desired. Get to know Mark and Eddie, and you'll always be taken care of. Great food, good portions, and very fair prices. Try it.

Subs: Outstanding (especially the "Steak Bomb") Pizza: I've had better but they are OK Salads: Good Service: None to speak of I almost gave this place a 4 star rating, and it's close, but they just don't quite make the cut for 4 stars (3.5 stars if that was an option). If you like hot peppers you absolutely have to try the Steak Bomb Sub. It's basically a Philly Cheese Steak sandwich with Pepperoni, Pizza Sauce, and Hot Peppers added. Yummm. They are fantastic for take-out or to-go. If you are going to eat there, you have to know the drill. You still go up front and order your food. Sit down, and they'll bring you your order. Now, here's part of what earned them a demotion from four stars to three. The first time I went in there to eat in, we didn't know the drill, so we grabbed some menus, sat down and waited for someone to come over... and waited... and waited some more. They flat ignored us and when we finally asked, a female worker fairly rudely told us that we had to order up front and let on that she would have let us sit there all night if we had wanted to. So, maybe this is a good place for the homeless to get out of the weather and not be bothered -- I don't know. In my opinion, the pizza is just OK, but pizza really is a personal thing and so others may love it. The crust is average thickness (not thin crust, but certainly not thick crust either). I thought it was way too light on the sauce, but the toppings were all very fresh and good. Another service issue -- we asked for extra pizza sauce after the pizza was delivered and they brought it to us refrigerator cold. We had to send the pizza sauce back to be heated. All the while, the female employee seemed to have a bit of an attitude all night like we were inconveniencing her by being there. For me, this place is great for take-out subs and salads, but I won't be going here for pizza or sit down service.
